Inverewe Gardens. These beautiful gardens were founded and established by Osgood MacKenzie whose ancestor Hector Roy, was a direct descendant of King Robert II. Oover the years Inverewe Gardens have achieved international fame and renown .
Gairloch Museum. Presents a record of life in the area from pre-history to the present day. Well worth a visit. See the Gairloch Museum website.
The Minch. The waters of the Minch which lie between Poolewe and the Outer Hebrides, and the sea life which abounds there including whales, porpoises and dolphins can be explored by boat with local mariner Ian French.
Local Activities
Pony Trekking. Explore the rugged beauty of the coastline and gentler hills with Gairloch Trekking centre. Tel 01445 712652
Golf. The challenging links at Gairloch Golf Club face across the sea to Skye, with the mountains making a spectacular backdrop.
Hill Walking. We are surrounded by an abundance of Munros. The Beinn Eighe National Reserve and the Torridon Forest are on the doorstep.
Fishing. The River Ewe and Loch Maree are legendary amongst anglers.
Bicycle Hire. Cycle hire is available at the hotel.
Touring. Take the car north to Ullapool. Or south to Torridon and Plockton, and explore at leisure the breathtaking sights of mountain, sea and island. Let us pack up a lunch hamper for you
Indoor Swimming. Poolewe even boasts its own, modern, indoor swimming pool, available throughout the year.
The Gairloch Leisure Centre, also open all the year round, has a Fitness Room and a Climbing Wall, as well as courts for Short Tennis/Table Tennis and Badmington. We have complimentary passes for both available for our guests. (Advance booking of passes may be necessary at buisier times)
Day trips
Boat Trips. Take a boat either close inshore and explore the bays and coves, or out to sea to explore the Minch .
Boat Trip to Skye. This summer sees the inauguration of a twice-daily service to Portree (Skye). Try taking a trip of the new ferry MV Spirit of Skye - for any boat trip we can ferry you direct to the boat in our courtesy mini-bus.
Lost Aircraft. Spend a day in the hills, to search out the remains of two allied bombers lost during World War II. We can give you full directions.
Naval History. The great arctic convoys of the last war were also assembled here in Loch Ewe. If you enjoy military history, explore the old installations, which protected the Loch , and see where the convoys gathered, where the submarine boom lay.
